Teia Marie Bui

Teia Marie Bui concentrates her practice on civil and criminal tax controversies and tax litigation.  She dedicates her time to representing and counseling clients at the examination, administrative appeals and trial level with various complex tax issues in areas including corporate, partnership, welfare benefit plan, defined benefit plan, Economic Development Credit (EDC), Foreign Bank Account Reporting (FBAR), and theft loss issues.

Ms. Bui earned her J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School and served as Business Editor of the Buffalo Law Review.  She also clerked for over 5 years at the I.R.S. Office of Chief Counsel and earned a B.S. in Accounting from Hilbert College.

Ms. Bui was formerly with the insurance defense firm Walsh & Wilkins, where she focused in various torts areas including, N.Y. Labor Law, product liability, premise liability, construction litigation, automobile injury, and legal malpractice.  She clerked for the Department of Justice at the United States Attorney’s Office, W.D.N.Y., where she argued motions and appeared for hearings before the United States District Court of New York.  Her work there centered on a variety of criminal and civil litigation matters, including fraud defenses, federal evidentiary restrictions, statutory interpretations and compliance, venue, and corporate veil issues.  Additionally, Ms. Bui has counseled non-profit corporate clients with mergers through her work with the Community & Economic Development Clinic at the University at Buffalo Law School.

To supplement her legal work, Ms. Bui has 6 years experience supervising tax preparers and assisting taxpayers in the preparation of their personal income and small business tax returns through the I.R.S. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.  She has worked and studied in the area of accounting where she gained experience in cost and fund accounting; auditing, bookkeeping, preparation of financial statements, reconciliation and financial analysis, utilizing F.A.S.B., G.A.A.P. and G.A.A.S.


Ms. Bui also substitute teaches a Public Policy Law and Management class at the University at Buffalo School of Management and serves as a Board Member of the University at Buffalo Law School GOLD Group.
